TOIL is a type of leave that is assigned to you by your employer and you can request to take off. If you have been given TOIL, you can see this on your Leave page on the app or on desktop.

What is TOIL

TOIL stands for 'time off in lieu' - if you work over your hours or work an extra day, your employer may choose to credit this time back to you as TOIL. You can then submit a TOIL leave request, much like you would a holiday request.

How to make a TOIL request on the app

If your employer uses TOIL, you can view your TOIL allowance and make a TOIL request by navigating to the Leave tab at the bottom of your screen. Here, you will see your TOIL allowance (if applicable) and can see when the TOIL was accrued.

To request leave which uses your TOIL allowance, tap the blue plus (which appears at the bottom of all pages on the app), and then select 'Request Leave'.

On the next page, tap 'TOIL' at the top of the screen and enter the dates you'd like to request off. Once done, tap 'Submit leave request'.

If your TOIL request is approved by your employer, the hours will now be taken from the TOIL allowance as opposed to standard holiday allowance.
