How do I view and claim open shifts?

Where you can see open shifts and how to claim them

Open shifts are shifts that are not assigned to anyone and are available for staff to claim. If this feature has been enabled by your employer, you can work the role of the open shift, can work at that location, and don't have a clashing shift, you will be able to claim an open shift agreeing to work it.

Viewing open shifts on the app

There are a few sections in the app where you can view open shifts - the Dashboard, Shifts and Rotas tabs.

When you open up the app it will default to the Dashboard page. Here, there will be a summary showing various bits of information - scroll down slightly to see 'Open shifts available'. You can also tap this to see further information.

To view open shifts on the Shifts tab, simply select this tab at the bottom of your screen. Open shifts will appear listed beside the date (on the left). You can scroll to see further dates and can tap on an open shift to see more details of the shift such as role, location and times.

To view shifts on the Rotas tab, select this page at the bottom of your screen then select the week-view by tapping the grid icon in the top left. You will then see the dates listed at the top of the page with Open Shifts beneath this.

Claiming open shifts on the app

When you have found an open shift you'd like to claim, simply tap on it, then, tap 'Claim open shift' at the bottom of the screen. You will then see a green confirmation message and the shift will be automatically assigned to yourself.

Viewing open shifts on desktop

On a desktop, you can view open shifts on the Rotas tab. You will see the dates listed across the top of the page and open shifts below. Unlike the app, you will see all open shifts across all roles here, rather than only shifts you are able to claim.

If you work at multiple Locations, you can use the dropdown in the top left corner to change locations and can use the arrows either side of the date to move forwards and backwards through the weeks.

Claiming open shifts on a desktop

On the Rotas tab, when you see an open shift you would like to claim, simply click it and select 'Claim'. Finally, confirm by pressing 'OK' on the pop-up.

This shift will then be automatically assigned to yourself.

Why can't I claim an open shift?

There are a number of reasons you may not be able to claim an open shift depending on your employers account settings. These include:

  • You may have an existing shift which clashes with the shift which you're trying to claim.

  • Your employer may have blocked claiming open shifts that clash with leave.

  • Your employer may have blocked claiming open shifts that clash with non-working days.

  • Your employer may have set a of maximum number of hours you can work in a week which the open shift would exceed.

  • You may have an unpublished shift on your rota (one which is in the planning stage and not yet visible to you) which is causing a clash.

If you cannot see any open shifts on your account it could be that none are available for you to claim.

If none of these are your issue but you are still not able to claim a shift, please speak with your employer and they will be able to advise.
