Your account can be set up to allow your staff to clock in without a shift for them on their rota. This can be used either alongside scheduled shifts, for example, if someone is called in last minute to cover, or you can simply use this tool and choose not to add any shifts for your staff.
Enabling clock ins without shifts
Clocking in without scheduled shifts can be enabled by any Admin user. To do this, click the cog icon in the top right corner of your page to access your account settings. Scroll down to the section 'Time and Attendance' and you'll see a dropdown called 'Allow clock ins without scheduled shifts'.
Click this, and you will see three options - 'Always', 'When there are no scheduled shifts to clock in to', and 'Never'. Please see below to help decide which is best for you.
Always | This setting means staff will always be able to clock in without the clock n record linking to any shift, even if they have a scheduled shift on the rota.

When there are no scheduled shifts to clock in to | This is the setting most accounts use. It will still allow staff to clock in when there is no shift scheduled, but, if they do have a shift on the rota, they will only be able to clock in to this. This helps avoid confusion with clock in records not syncing with existing shifts.

Never
| Select this if you'd like to disable clock ins without scheduled shifts and only allow staff to clock in to shifts on their rota.

'When there are no scheduled shifts to clock in to' is related to your 'Early clock ins allowed' setting.
For example, if 'Early clock ins allowed' is set to 15 minutes, staff who are more than 15 minutes early will only be able to clock in without a shift - please adjust this setting accordingly.
